Why Home School Is A Popular Educational Alternative

Making sure your children get a good quality education is important to every parent.

Some feel that public school is the easiest and best way for their child to get into a good college, some choose private school with the hope of giving their child a leg up in this world and some are homeschooling, mostly to have more control over what their child is learning and with the hope of providing them with all the tools for their life and career.

The statistics show that homeschooled children excel in college more than public and some private schooled children.

Home school also means something a little different to parents as there are a variety of reasons that people choose to homeschool their children.

There are various k12 homeschooling curricula that can be used for homeschooling like Holt online learning, Calvert homeschooling and programs like Abeka and Alpha omega.

Some states even have their own online public school that you can use for free (state testing requirements usually still apply).

Home Schoolprograms (outside of the public school at home option) are designed to help you teach your child how to study and learn independently in a variety of subject areas.

For instance, besides math, reading, science, geography, history, English and other basic materials, these programs also give you the option to help your child learn to write in Japanese, learn to read Hindi and many also provide a Christian curriculum.

As with any educational choice, there are advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling.

The homeschooling advantages include such things as choosing the curriculum you want for your child and your child can advance at their own pace.

The disadvantages include such things as children may not get the social interaction they need and not all parents are academically prepared to teach their children.

Homeschooling from preschool to high school is a good choice for some parents and there is a variety of ways to get free homeschool material or used homeschool curriculum online or through homeschool groups in your local area.

There are even a variety of free tools like wiki online reference that your child can use for research.

Through these valuable home school resources you can find used homeschool books, get ged information and find a group of people to socialize with for your children.

No matter what your needs, you can find the right tools and materials for your child to get a very high quality education at home.

Should I Give My Homeschool Graduate a Diploma?

By Lee Binz
Giving a diploma can be a very good idea. Not necessary, but a very good idea. There are times in life when kids are asked, "Are you a high school graduate?" And, "Do you have a high school diploma?" Although you can assure them they are a high school graduate, giving them a paper transcript can emphasize the point, so there is no doubt. And although you can assure them they are a high school graduate, having a diploma can remind them to always say YES if asked if they have one.
